Anybody ever heard of them or listen to them?

I heard their song "The Patient Ferris Wheel" on the radio on one of the local college stations around here the other day and I've been hooked since. Really in-depth lyrically, and they've been called a punk rock version of Bruce Springsteen by a number of reviewers. Beyond that, though, I hear a touch of 7M3 and Lucero in their music, as well as a strong sound of Social Distortion and AgainstMe!

Highly recommended from me, to say the least...

"THE '59 SOUND could only start out one way: with the sound of a record player needle set down on a scratched-up record."

The opening description on the bands webpage blew me away as I'm so focused on vinyl. Now I want to find a blank vinyl track to try to enhance some test songs with "scratched up record" sound.

"Houdini's Angels" does something like this at 28 or 29 seconds in. I always loved it. I wait in anticipation for it every time song starts.

I got to agree that this is a good record. I love the first track, but it doesn't make my top 10 of last year. It is still growing on me though.

I read on their website this afternoon that they wrote this album like they would a setlist...it was written to be played live.

Singer played a solo acoustic show in Cambridge MA last night...tried to get my girl Lisa to go, but I don't think it happened.

Not yet, but I had a pretty good connection & heard a couple different tunes on their myspace. I still like.

If you have a passport, you can win a trip to London to see them open up for Dave Matthews Band, who is opening up for Bruce Springsteen.

february is a real good month for shows in vienna. i have already seen staind and shinedown. now will perhaps see the gaslight anthem and at the end of feb oasis. i used to like them when i was way younger and never had the chance to see them. so i will see if i am still in the mood for their music or not.
( i guess not) but anyways i will go.

Found a hard copy of this today finally. In a small Record Exchange. Mgr. had a best of 08 display and he said he needed to add this as well. I told him right next to Hagars Cosmic Universal Fashion would be fine.

I really believe my I-tunes version is not as good sounding as the hard copy. Maybe it's me.

How was the show Dude? Watched Conan appearance again tonight and wondered.

Can't stop listening to "Here's looking at you Kid" and "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues". Early favorites were "59 Sound" and "High Lonesome".

This was also released on vinyl with collectible color vinyl as well as black. Some is one sided with a blank side two. If you see colored versions reasonable at merch. table, consider purchasing. Less than 1000 printed.

the show was one of the best i have seen so far in 2009.
i guess gaslight played in front of around 450 people. ( it was a sold out show, like all of the european gigs so far ).
the evening started of with a band called the polar bear club. they were ok but i wasn't into their style of music.
second support was a guy from england called frank turner. he plays a mix of folk/punk just with his acoustic guitar. he was amazing. he was already worth going to the show. if u have time u should check his homepage or myspace site. he is a really talented guy.
then gaslight took the stage for around 1.45h.
setlist:
Great Expectations
High Lonesome
Old White Lincoln
Even Cowgirls Get the Blues
We Came to Dance
The '59 Sound
Señor And The Queen
Wooderson
Wherefore Art Thou, Elvis?
Miles Davis and the Cool
Meet Me by the River's Edge
Here's Lookin' At Your Kid
Once Upon A TimeRobert Bradley’s Blackwater Surprise Cover
Boomboxes and Dictionaries
The Backseat
Encore:
Blue Jeans and White T-Shirts
Stand By MeBen E. King Cover // Intro I Would'a Called You Woody, Joe
Say I Won't (Recognise)
Encore 2:
A New EnglandBilly Bragg Cover (with Frank Turner)

they looked like having a lot of fun playing. they made many jokes and interacted with the crowd really good and he really has an amzing voice.
i heard that they do pearl jam's state of love and trust at some shows, so i hoped they do it this time, but well they did not.
all in all the evening was totally worth it. i hope they will be back soon.
so if u have the chance on seeing gaslight or frank turner, u should go for it. they are worth their money, not like oasis who i saw 2 days ago.

Oh man, I'm disappointed to not see "Patient Ferris Wheel" on the set, but that's still an awesome set. And I agree on "High Lonesome." Amanda, Trees, AkronKay, and I have been trying to decipher the lyrics and references on Facebook across all of our status messages. So many references to other bands in lyrics across the whole album. Beautiful.

And Frank Turner opening? He fucking rocks. I've got his debut album and really need to buy a bunch of his other stuff because its just all around good. Definitely worth the listen with him too, I concur.

Weird how all you blowhards jumped right on the bandwagon of this band as soon as Jason Ross spoke. I'm sure all of you knew who they were before Zeke mentioned them right?

What a bunch of posers..(except in this case, you zeke)

I wouldn't love seven mary three if I didn't take recommendations. Or Lisa Loeb. Or The clarks. What are you supposed to do?? Wait for radio to maybe decide it's worth their time and towards their exact demographic? Listen to the one single that might make it? That's just silly. Keep on suggesting, friends.

And I listened to it and tried it out when Adam sent me the cd's via AIM a month or two before JR commented on it.
