Ditto, I'm hoping at least with the deluxe release of Dis/Location that we get Goldfish!

Really? As far as I know, you have to sign up at the site to get on the list to recieve the download, and with just a couple more clicks you could wind up in here and people would email you whatever you wanted...and more!!! What I am trying to say is, it's not hard to find most of the music that they have released during this mp3 thing, if you make a minimal effort....and the "Play Cumbersome!!!" guy doesn't give a fuck about it anyway. Maybe I was wrong, but I assumed that this whole mp3 thing was about turning the hardcore fans on to some new stuff that we hadn't heard before, but so far that has not been the case. I'm not bitching, because it's free and I can choose not to take it...but it isn't what I expected. Your mileage may vary.

I've enjoyed the soundboard recordings of the songs not on the Backbooth CD, I hope we get all of the covers eventually... But yeah, it was originally made to sound like we'd be hearing rarities and outtakes and demos etc... Wasn't there an idea running around a while ago about a subscription service where we could get unreleased material like that? Or am I imagining things.

In their defense, the stuff they are releasing are rarities and unreleased stuff. They just underestimated the super-fans. I also think they are trying to release the best quality rare tracks. I have some great recordings from John and others who do the hard leg work, but I also have some pretty poor recordings.I know nobody is complaining, really; but we still have time in the year for the guys to surprise us. coughBad Reputation for next month!cough

I'm just happy to hear some stuff that I haven't heard before, either because I'm a slacker or because I haven't been to the show that the 7Mp3 is from. Also, the guys definitely don't have to do anything like this for us. So even if it's something I have heard before, it's gotta be new to someone. I'm sure they will throw us hard core super duper fans something unexpected every once in a while.

Totally with you on this one... I'm tired of almost every single thread turning into some newb posting "OMG, I've never heard _____, can someone send me it?" I'm all about sharing, but really now... And everyone's getting excited about the new "dis/location" release. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I don't give a crap about it. Give me a new studio album, or give me a B-sides album with crap I haven't heard. I don't need to buy an album I've already bought, just to get some small mixing differences and a few new tracks. I'm sorry, not worth my money or time.

I have to disagree with this one...people have been very generous with me, I don't mind sending what I can. You may have a complete library but I think alot of people don't. If anyone should be tired of it, I would think Erika would be. She's the one who usually sends out the songs.Just my opinion....which isn't worth much. quote: Originally posted by StudlyZeke: Totally with you on this one...I'm tired of almost every single thread turning into some newb posting "OMG, I've never heard _____, can someone send me it?" In all fairness, computer crashes happen as often as anything. Plenty of other reasons perhaps but this was how I lost some. I was,"Guilty of backup malpractice!" Those who know how should finalize download site so band would know what we share as well. Should we send 7MP3's via email? Probably not. It would defeat the purpose of getting them to sign up and hopefully get their attention. ------------------ "Peace" [This message has been edited by 5150fitz (edited 08-09-2010).]

Felt the need to weigh in on this thread...First of all, the 7MP3 download was created to feed fans of all levels with unreleased material. Due to schedules and costs, we are running 2-3 years between new releases so having new music and re-releases that we own/control in the interim is both good for our fans and smart business for the band. We do our best to release 7MP3 music that we are proud of and want our fans to hear. The fact that some of it has already been traded amongst our fans is out of our control. As you know, we feel strongly about our relationships with our fan, appreciate the support you have shown us, and have always tried to create environments where you can communicate to each other. At first the message board was about the band, but now it is more about the fan. With Facebook, road trips to see the band, and other events this fan communication has splintered into many exciting avenues. We are proud to have brought music fans together. Ryan/Studly Zeke: The obvious solution to your disdain for our dis/location release is don't buy the record. No reason to agonize about it and no hard feelings. We are proud of that record and of other material we wrote in that era and are excited about releasing it. Not sure why you feel the need to stir up negative feelings in a thread about us sharing music with fans of all levels. Your opinions on 7MP3 are appreciated. We will continue to do our best to bring you good music so long as this promotion lasts. Over and out. Steve

Steve - Can you flat out tell us if there is another B-Sides CD planned for the future? The people you are dealing with on this forum are basically the same ones who have travelled to the shows in Orlando and have supported the band in one way or the other for years. Buying a new copy of dis/location isn't a big deal, nor was buying an incomplete version of the Backbooth show...I'm just really interested in knowing if we can expect some "new" old music at any time!!! Thanks for all that you do. I realize that we aren't always the easiest fans to please, and there really hasn't been a decent blow up on this board for quite a while!! Scott

Tell us how you really feel Scott It does seem that the site has become more fan-oriented than band-oriented, but can you really blame us? The website by the band and for the band has no band members ever on it. Rarely do we ever see any posting, aside from Steve, from the band. It is really encouraging for the members of the band to chime in once in a while. We get all excited when Steve posts. When JR posts, it is like God is speaking to us. Giti used to post and give us updates quite a bit. But to be honest, I know they are busy and all, but the fans on this message board are the ones supporting the band. We are the ones traveling to all of the shows. We spread the word like crazy to the point that people want restraining orders issued on us. Now granted, we are not financially supporting the band, but do you see how many more people we attract just by traveling? Do you see any other nutjobs coming from, I don't know, Australia for a Gin Blossoms show? It is nice to hear from the band. Other than that, what can we possibly post about? "Can I get some rare music? " "Who's going to the next show?" "Guitar Tabs please!" "What's your favorite 7M3 song?" We have an "Ask the Band" section that has been neglected by the band for years now. We are doing the best we can. You still have a great network of fans, and you are more likely to shake AIDS than you will shake us, we are just asking for a little attention every now and then. Also, one last thing, I am a big culprit behind spreading rare tunes that people cannot get a hold of, but I will never spread any copyrighted music that is available through any means like this site, ebay, amazon, etc. It's a matter of ethics. If the band can still make money on it, I am not emailing it. I only spread around hidden goodies. If that isn't ok, let me know. Now if you all decide to make a massive "Rarities" collection with all of this wonderful music on it, that would be super awesome! I would love something like that. Steve - you should very well know that we are some of the hungriest music fans around, so we are ALWAYS going to bug you for new tunes

I agree with Erika, and I would never send anything that the band is selling either (we definitely want to support the band), but sharing the other stuff only wets our appetites even more for new stuff and wanting to see them live.

Fan oriented? Band oriented? Wow! If the band participated it would be more band oriented as we would follow their words anywhere. If the fans are the only participants, then the fans will do whatever. I almost feel guilty for giving my opinions of other music in the other music section. I also come here to see what people with a common love do outside the common denominator. I think the band hesitates to participate because of the critical folk with internet balls always being heard. Cause they can. I would like more band participation even if it is just a story about a song or what they are listening to/working on. I refuse to do "social networking" and feel left out of whatever is being developed there. Remember all your "friends" on social sites may not be your friends. We who come here will always be friends! Time to reclaim my "lurker" status. See you in Ohio! ------------------ "Peace"

Scott--There are plans for a rarities release. Not sure when. We started cataloguing rarities 2 years ago and have explored the subscription model as well as a more traditional digital release. I wish I could tell you when this will go down. Erika--Not sure I am following you. The website is for the band and our fans. In this era of the music industry it is the single most important marketing and communications tool we have. The message board has really morphed into a fan communication platform. You can post whatever you want, whenever you want. The band does read the board. In terms of band interaction with fans, that is different with every band I have ever worked with. Some bands are super hands on and some are super hands off. I believe we are good to our fans and I know that Jason, Casey, Thomas and Mike care about our fans--you have no doubt heard Jason thank the fans on mic and in the credits to Backbooth there is a special shout out to the core fans for "keeping the dream alive". We have no issues with our fans sharing music they recorded at one of our shows. Some of this music may make its way to a 7MP3. There are some very important shows that were recorded and traded that we want all of our fans to hear. Scott recorded the City Arts Factory show--that material is too good not to spread to more fans. And, for the record. We will not force you to re-buy dis/location to get the unreleased material. We will be selling those as a separate digital "booster" package since most of you already purchased the record back on '04. Rock it. Steve

Perhaps I took it wrong about your statement:At first the message board was about the band, but now it is more about the fan. I interpreted it as a slightly negative statement. That is just how we have evolved and I was simply making a suggestion about how we can turn things around to put the board back to where it was in the beginning. We very much know that the band loves and appreciates us. We just like to hear from them. They are the most important thing for many of our lives. Keep on rockin in the free world guys.

Erika - I think what Steve means is that the message board has become more of a hang out for the fans....and in previous years (read: before MySpace and FaceBook) it was THE spot where we are made plans, etc. As you know, the board isn't nearly as active as it was in previous years, mainly because on FB we can pick and chose which friends we interact with...cause, believe it or not, we all don't always get along so well. I said all of that to say this - I don't think Steve meant it as a negative. Now...when's that B-Side release coming out, Steve???

Thanks, Scott. You managed to much more eloquently say what I was trying to say. We are proud of what the board has created and that it has spawned so many lasting relationships that continue off board, at Facebook, at shows, etc. Long live the board...

I'm relatively new to the board but have been a fan since the moment I heard Cumbersome when it was released. I am thankful for any decent quality recording I can get my hands on, so thanks to the band and the board members for all you have given.Obviously, 7M3 is not as popular as they were in the mid 90s. This doesn't mean they don't make as good music as then; they actually have gotten better. So I think many on here feel as if they have been the core fanbase supporting the band over the years. They have become like family to each other and just want some of that feeling reciprocated by the band. This doesn't mean the band needs to come to their homes for Thanksgiving (although that would be cool), they just want some more personal touches. Like actual Tweets/FB posts from the different members ( especially Jason) occasionally. Or maybe some personal posts on the main site or in the message board. What about a Fan Club? Or auctioning off an old guitar of the bands signed by the band? Just some things that make us feel more like we're part of the band. Anyway, just my two cents.

Oh every square inch of me loves that statement! I like to do what I want to do in my own time. I couldn't stand the thought of somebody pressuring me for response. So forums it is. I understand the ability to reach numerous people but as with all good shall come bad. I do wish this site was updated with band news first though.Facebook was again the top story on my local news. New (youthful) city mgr started account to get feedback from citizens. Well not all deal with judgement and criticism well. Several council members felt attacked verbally. So,they succeeded in unfriending their own city! Account re-instatement is now demanded by the citizens. The crowd let them know tonight they want it, with a grain of moderating. Very big turnout on the issue. To hell with all other business! ------------------ "Peace"
